BIO
Artist Name: Tifane Creole Soul, Afro Caribbean Stephanie Sejour, also known as Tifane, is the present and future of Haitian and Worldly music. Making music her own, she finds influences from
great names such as Yole Derose, Yanick Etienne, Emeline Michel, Terry Moise, India Arie, Billie Holiday and the like. Since releasing her self written and composed album, known for its record
selling single hit in Haiti, “Se Kom Si”, the Diva can be found collaborating with some of the biggest names in Caribbean music and performing world wide. In 2006, she received the “Best Female
Artist of the Year” award from Ticket d'Or in Haiti. In the same year she was awarded “Best Female Artist of 2006” by the Haitian Entertainment Awards in New York.
In her first album, Aprent, the listener is taken on a voyage of emotions. Tifane’s diverse use of sounds and rhythms, complemented with poetic words are woven together to make an imprint on the
hearts of listener everywhere. Her eclectic rhythms resonate the sounds of the heart, social justice, empowerment and more. Haitian Movie Magazine (November 2007) describes her music as
“breathing life into…the homogenous sounds of Haitian music”. The loudest contribution of Tifane is her world-wide influence. For many non-English speaking artists, utilizing ones’ native tongue
usually confines him/her to ones country. Tifane, on the other hand has received numerous invitations from both Creole and non Creole speaking events around the world. “J’ai toujours rêvé de
chanter en Créole sur une terre étrangère où on ne connait pas vraiment la musique ha?tienne,” says Tifane as she explains her dream performing in Creole in non-Creole speaking countries. This
reality has come true and has even been awarded in these countries. In Serbia, Tifane received the “Best Vocalist” award of the Nisville Jazz Festival. She remains the first Haitian artist to
perform in this festival. Tifane founded KALM a social program mobilizing youth to combat violence. This year, Tifane will serve as a catalyst in the 11th Annual National Haitian Student
Conference in Gainesville, Florida, promoting KALM.
Including the above mentioned awards, Tifane received the “Revelation of the Year” award in 2005 by Ticket Magazine and the “Honor and Merit Award in March 2007 for her contribution to the World
Vision’s research project "Discovery Culture" in Hinche, Haiti. In November of 2007, Tifane was invited by promoter Matthew “Mateo” Mulcahy for a homecoming performance in the Old Town School of
Folk Music concert series in Chicago. “I would like to say to the Haitian people: when an artist is being appreciated by the people of where they come from, they increase the value of the artist
abroad” .
She is currently working on her new songs with a much significant motivation to entertain and please the world. With time and experience her voice changed for the best and we are expecting great
things from her new found inspiration.
