BIO

MACKENDY DORCILHOMME

Singer Songwriter Composer Producer

Mackendy Dorcilhomme is an emerging artist about to take the music industry by storm. In the process of recording his first full length album to be released by ShartyB Productions, Mackendy is destined for success.

Mackendy was born in St. Marc, Haiti. His mother was a school teacher in Haiti and his father lived in Montreal, Canada. Mackendy moved to Montreal when he was 15 years old.

Music was a major part of Mackendy’s life from a young age being surrounded by a rich musical culture in Haiti. He was able to see legendary bands such as Kassav, Tabou Combo, and Skah Shah.

Mackendy’s aspiration is to bring Kompa into the mainstream in hopes it will receive the recognition it deserves. The word Kompa derives from the Spanish word “compas” which means rhythm or tone. Mackendy has invented a new style of Kompa and through his music he hopes to gain international recognition.

Over the last three years Mackendy has received critical acclaim after opening for such diverse acts such as the first lady of dancehall, Lady Saw, Calypso King of the world, The Mighty Sparrow and Reggae Ambassador Freddie McGregor. His earlier performing days go as far back as 2004 sharing the stage with the French Musical Academy Winner, Wilfred at the Franco-Ontarian Festival. Mackendy and his band also opened and backed up Zouk Legend Harry Diboula from Martinique at the Carib-Expo Festival in Ottawa. More recently, Mackendy opened for iconic Haitian group Tropicana. In addition to this, Mackendy had the opportunity to open for Black Parents in Montreal, Quebec performing for a crowd of over a thousand people.

Bringing a high octane and energetic, tight and diverse set, Mackendy and his 6 piece band deliver a wide range of musical flavors including Kompa, Zouk, Reggae, and World Beat. Mackendy demands the crowd’s attention by spreading positive energy and giving a powerful performance.

It is no doubt that Mackendy can break down cultural barriers as he sings in Creole, French, and English. However, Mackendy believes that regardless of what language he sings in, the one language everyone can understand is music.
